Social Media Analytics Free Tools

, ,

Social Media Analytics have become an integrated part of Social Media Marketing. But without the integration of proper Social Media Tools, most of the Brands are handicapped for analysis. I have compiled a list of Free Social Media Analytics Tools which can cater to the following needs to some extent:

  • Your Owned Social Growth
  • Competitive Benchmarking
  • Twitter Insights
  • YouTube Analysis
  • Social Monitoring and Trends
  • Sentiment Analysis and Reach

Although, Paid Tools like Radian6 and Sprinklr are better in terms of better insights and more drill-downs. But for starters, these tools would be more than enough if you do not have the big budgets to spend on Fancy analysis and reports.

All it takes is a little DETERMINATION!!

With drought affecting many parts of Maharashtra and Government busy playing politics blaming it on each other.. I found out about a village in Maharashtra which has reaped the benefits of Water Harvesting and timely management of water resources to ensure they are not affected by such crisis.

And yes it didn’t take any of the millions sanctioned by the government, nor did it take a celebrity adoption of a village. All it did take was a vision and a Community effort.

Puts my faith in to a vision of seeing a greener and a more productive India.

All it takes is a little DETERMINATION…

What is Social Media Analytics?

, , , , ,

Social Media has been around in the industry for quite some time..With Brands worldwide jumping in the pool of Social Media marketing, there comes a need to measure the efforts of the Paid,Owned and Earned Media for the Brands.Social Media Analytics can help you with building a measurement framework around your Brand and it’s efforts on Social Media. Analytics helps you measure your KPI’s against the goals set by you for using Social Media. You might be doing Social Media for the following purposes:

  • Brand Awareness
  • Sales/Lead Generation
  • Social Outreach/Customer Support
  • Engagement/Interactions

Below are some of the metrics with the help of which you can execute a framework to measure your Brand’s success:

  • Social Footprint:

Social Footprint is nothing but the total number of fans/followers/subscribers you ave on your social channel. This can help you determine the number of people you can reach on a direct (first level) basis and are interested in your updates (That is the reason they have followed you in the first place). Keeping an eye on this number can help you determine your Fan Growth Rate and analyze it with your competitors to gauge where you stand. But, please remember, Having a million fans alone is not going to help!

  • Reach:

Your overall reach is something which can be combined with your own fans on Facebook,Twitter and all the networks you are present on along with the second level reach (Friends of Fans, Followers reached via ReTweets, people talking about you indirectly on blogs and Twitter). This can give you an overall impression about how your conversations are being reached out to people and if it is reaching out to the right set of people.

  • Sentiment and Share of Voice:

So your brand is reaching out to 10 million people? Awesome..But are they talking positive about you? Sentiment analysis helps determine the ratio of your Brand’s positive to negative sentiment ratio. And as we do have tools like Radian6 and Social Mention and a gazillion other tools doing a decent job for us in that, you don’t have to manually scrub out all the data to find out meaningful conversations anymore.

Share of Voice is your conversation share as compared to your competitor’s on a brand level or a product level. It can be used for a pre-post campaign analysis/product launch to see if the campaign has indeed impacted your SoV in a more positive manner for the Brand.

  • Engagement:

Engagement is not just the People Talking About figure on Facebook. It can be any action which the user takes willingly in context to the Brand and it’s posts on all the social channels.Engagement is a pretty important metric to gauge the percentage of fans who are actually participating in your conversation and actually care to do any of the following:

  • Like your posts
  • Comment on your posts/blog articles
  • Share your posts
  • View your Photo
  • Play your Video
  • Reply to You
  • Mention You on Twitter
  • ReTweet you
  • Click on your link
  • Download a file

in no logical order. There might be many more actions on many different platforms, But these are the ones we generally see users doing day in-day out. Engagement shows interest from the consumers point of view, and if you lack engagement you know your content strategy is lacking somewhere.

And then there is negative engagement which if on the higher side lets you know that either you are spamming your consumers too much or your content truly sucks!!

  • Report Spam
  • Negative Feedback Users on Facebook
  • Unlikes
  • Impact to Your Brand:

Your engagement level decides the end user response your brand is going to get. The overall impact to your Brand is the most important thing to measure and you cannot measure the same unless you define the goals for which you are using social media.

  • How much traffic does social media bring to my website?
  • How many people buy from my website via Social?
  • Are there any leads generated through social recommendations?
  • Has Social increased my Brand’s awareness?
  • Am i providing support to customer queries through Social Media?
  • Have i improved my Brand’s perception through Social Media?

These are some of the questions you may ask yourself and set your goals accordingly. There can be just one purpose for you or all of them ( The longer the list, the more resources/dedication you will need).

There are tons of metrics and tools which can help you get started (Do look at the wealth of data Facebook insights provides in downloadable excel for once). Don’t try and get lost in the definitions and metric values,Try and generate value out of those metrics for better actionable insights.

Which are the metrics you consider important for your Social Media measurement? Do let me know in comments..

Pinterest launches Web Analytics, What this means?

, ,

Pinterest, the new hot property in Social Media has already gained a lot of traction as far as the American market is concerned.

The company has launched new web analytics tool for Businesses/Brands for them to better understand and utilize their Pinterest resources for content optimization.

With Pinterest related analytics tools like Pinreach and Pinpuff already in the market, Pinterest can be a little more sophisticated in their approach with their own analytics for brands on par with Facebook Insights an LinkedIn Insights.

Below are the features you can expect out of the tool which would be launched for Businesses who have a verified profile with Pinterest:

1. Your total pins
2. Repins of your pins
3. Impressions generated
4. Click throughs

Each of those metrics has a unique user count along with the total actions taken by them on your pins. And just like in Facebook Insights, you can select custom date ranges and pre-defined ranges for your view and compare the data for any spike or abnormality in your weekly activity. And if you are a data junkie like me, you can also export the same in a .csv file and play around with the data to represent a cool looking dashboard to your boss/client.

The other tabs give you a drill-down in to what’s recently pinned/repinned and clicked.Helps us to optimize and think over the content and imagery which resonates with your brand’s audience the most. So if you see any spike in the data, you can drill down in to the particular range and see what/which image actually caused it. Ain’t that cool?

And if you want to know the consumer behavior of the user who is re-pinning your most popular pins, you can do that too. Clicking on any pin tells you the activity of the user and what other pins/interest he is hooked on to on Pinterest. So if i pin a Galaxy S4 on Pinterest along with an iPhone, the brands know that i am interested in to buying (if a chance arises) in both the products (can be a gold mine for eCommerce sites if they are serious about Pinterest). You can download these information via a CSV download on the 100 most recent pinned/repinned/clicked pins for more detailed information on these.

The new tool can be used to give insights in to the consumer behavior on the web and how their users are talking about the products and organizing them on Pinterest. How brands utilize this data for their benefit? Only time will tell.

Let me know your thoughts about how you feel about this new development on Pinterest.

Bharat Bandh?? Ghanta

, ,

So as the Nation was observing a two day bandh(holiday) due to the nationwide protests, The people of Mumbai had to drag their asses of to work. Why?

Because frankly we don’t care..

So why do Bandh’s happen anyway?

Well, Bandh’s are supposed to be a peaceful protest carried out to let the Government know something is not going right for the people.

What it has Become?

An excuse for the families to sit at home and watch TV,tweeting their agony online, chat on Facebook and curse the politicians on the NewsHour.

Does it help us in anyway?

More losses are registered countrywide with the economy coming to a standstill. The country which is already head to toe in debt registering losses of more than 26,000 crores. People beaten up because they opened their shops (Talk about Freedom, eh?). Children playing cricket on the streets as that is the only day when the Roads are free of Traffic Jams.

So speaking of which, it does help the kids in the end as it aides them for a new playground to play on. But otherwise, It is just another political gimmick which leads this country nowhere.

And i am glad Mumbai didn’t care at least this time.

Things The Joker taught me about myself

, ,

Yes, we have all seen how brilliant Heath Ledger was in The Dark Knight and yes we all know how psychotic The Joker can be.. But then was he really that psycho to start with.. While watching the movie (which i may have watched more than the Kids these days watch Rowdy Rathore on Sony Max) i somehow feel connected to the thoughts he conveys.

And No!! I am not interested in killing people nor am i the ‘Agent of the Chaos’. But the perspective which the Joker tried to bring in to the Batman was pretty simple.

So while you might be all happy and gay(the english synonym word and not otherwise) when all things are going your way. One sign of any disaster and people start getting impatient/selfish and do not hesitate to play games for their own good. From the petty corporate politics to relationships you see people bitching about each other to gain the upper hand. And if you try to take the neutral side, well they drag you down with them.

“Don’t talk like one of them, you’re not! Even if you’d like to be. To them, you’re just a freak–like me. They need you right now. When they don’t…they’ll cast you out. Like a leper. See, their morals, their code: it’s a bad joke. They’re dropped at the first sign of trouble. They’re only as good as the world allows them to be. You’ll see, when the chips are down these civilized people will eat each other.” – The Joker

And thinking about these lines over and over again. I wonder how true this really stands. The Joker never said that the humans are ‘born evil’. But when they are desperate (Read ‘Fucked Up’) they won’t be afraid to eat each other (The so called Religious and community fights).

And i am not saying that i will be the Batman(The Good guy) and believe in the ‘good of the people’ when truly such a thing happens. But that is what concerns me.There are no ‘Good guys’ in this world but circumstantial. And when the chips are down which of the two will you be?

The Batman or The Joker?

A lot is being said and a lot will be said about Michael Dell’s decision to take the company he started in 1984 in his college dorm room private (with some cash from Silver Lake Partners, Microsoft and other investors.)

People are also going to point out that karma is a bitch. Others will say that the cloud will prove to be the ultimate undoing of Dell, and that mobile is Roundrock, Texas-based company’s Achilles heel. I would agree with some if not all of those assessments. I would also be hard pressed to ignore the harsh reality of tech-land — turnarounds rarely turn.

And despite knowing all that, I cannot help but applaud Michael Dell, the founder.

Dell is doing what few people do — putting both his reputation and his fortune on the line in order to save and perhaps revive the company with whom his name…
